Context Integrity

Tip

This document describes the detailed usage of a specific policy. If you are using the Apinizer policy structure for the first time or want to learn how policies work, read What is Policy? first.

Overview

What is its Purpose?

  • Checks chat messages for forged role markers.
  • Validates the message-role structure.
  • Stops a user from inserting a fake system or assistant turn into the content.

Working Principle

The policy applies two independent checks:

  1. Role-marker detection: Scans for forged role markers such as ChatML <|im_start|>system, Llama [INST], <<SYS>>, or system:.
  2. Role-sequence validation: Checks that roles are in the allowedRoles list and that the system message count stays within maxSystemMessages.

On a violation the policy can apply BLOCK, FLAG, or MASK for a role marker. A structural role violation cannot be masked, so Mask falls back to Flag.

This policy must run after Prompt Template, Prompt Decorator, and RAG Injection.

Features and Capabilities

Basic Features

  • Built-in markers: Uses the default role-marker patterns.
  • Allowed roles: system, user, assistant, tool, or developer.
  • System limit: Maximum number of system messages allowed.
  • Action: Block, Flag, or Mask.

Advanced Features

  • Custom markers: Organization-specific markers can be added with customMarkerPatternList. Custom regular expressions should be narrow and safe.
  • Mask limit: Mask can remove only the matching textual role markers.
